Korean ticketing words, explained
Korean fans have their own words for ticket sales. Here are the ones you'll see most on sale day, in fan posts and in TicketKST.
Before the sale
- 예매 (yemae): booking a ticket in advance. 예매처 is the ticketing site that sells the show.
- 선예매 (seon-yemae): a presale, usually for fan club members, that opens before everyone else.
- 일반예매 (ilban-yemae): the general sale, open to everyone.
- 팬클럽 인증 (fan club verification): checking your membership before a fan club presale. It often has its own deadline, earlier than the sale itself.
- 오픈 (open): the exact moment a sale starts, announced in Korea Standard Time (KST).
- 서버 시간 (server time): the time on the ticketing site's server. Fans watch it instead of their phone clock, because the two can differ by a second or more.
During the sale
- 대기열 (waiting line / queue): when many people arrive at once, the site lines them up and lets them in a few at a time. You see your number go down.
- 보안문자 (captcha): letters you type to show you're a person, not a program.
- 좌석 선택 (seat selection): the seat map, where available seats are shown in color.
- 이선좌 (iseonjwa): short for 이미 선택된 좌석입니다, "this seat has already been selected". You picked a seat, but someone else confirmed it first. The most famous message in Korean ticketing.
- 피켓팅 (pi-ketting): "bloody ticketing", a sale so competitive that seats are gone in seconds.
- 광클 (gwangkeul): "crazy clicking", clicking as fast as you can the moment a sale opens.
- 올콘 (olkon): going to every night of a concert run.
After the sale
- 취켓팅 (chwi-ketting): "cancellation ticketing", catching tickets that come back when other buyers cancel or don't pay in time.
- 무통장입금 (bank transfer): paying by bank transfer before a deadline. Unpaid seats are released again, which is where 취켓팅 comes from.
- 양도 (yangdo): handing a ticket to someone else. Many sales don't allow it, or only under the ticketing site's own rules.
- 암표 (ampyo): scalped tickets resold above the original price. See why macros and scalping are against the law.
